Monel 400 Coils have a nickel content of 67 percent and a copper content of 23 percent. The Monel 400 coils have excellent corrosion and oxidation resistance. The Monel UNS N04400 coils also have outstanding neutral and alkaline salt resistance. These sheets’ excellent strength and toughness are aided by the copper and nickel combination. Even at sub-zero temperatures, the Monel UNS N04400 coils maintain their resistance to corrosion and oxidation. The Monel 400 coils are also resistant to brackish water or seawater flowing through them. When de-aerated, the Monel 400 coils also provide resistance to hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acids. The welding properties of Monel 400 coils are also excellent. They can be soldered, welded, and brazed with ease. The coils’ hardness is increased by the impact resistance. It does not go through ductility transitions, but rather brittle transitions, and is thus chilled to the same temperature as liquid hydrogen. Monel 400 coils must be handled with care, with average temperatures for hot operations ranging from 648 degrees Celsius to 1176 degrees Celsius (1200 degrees Fahrenheit to 2150 degrees Fahrenheit). On this alloy, welding procedures such as gas arc welding, metal arc welding, gas–metal arc welding, and submerged arc welding are advised.
