What is SS 317 Round Bar

Stainless Steel 317 Round Bars are molybdenum-bearing austenitic chromium-nickel steels identical to Stainless Steel 316 except for the composite material in 317/ 317L, which is more significant to a degree. SS 317 Round Bars, which contain higher chromium, nickel, and molybdenum than 316, are highly resistant to corrosion and harder than Type 304. This hardening is owing to its high iron content, which is significantly higher than much stainless steel—this composition of iron with chromium, nickel, and molybdenum results in a tough, durable alloy. 

SS 317 grade was developed to provide a more robust alternative to the 316 grade. Stainless Steel 317 Round Bars are a preferred material for many industries. 317 SS Rolled Forged Bars are available in various forms, sizes, and lengths. The material is heat treated to a minimum of 1700 degrees Fahrenheit. However, it is essential to note that temperatures below this point may cause material-grade complications. 317 SS Rough Forged Bars and 317 SS Forged Bars can be used in various applications, including oilfield drilling rigs, chemical processing equipment, and petrochemical processing equipment. Alloy 317L Bar is also widely used in the paper and pulp handling industry, textile equipment, and food processing equipment. The alloy resists acidic solutions such as citric acid and sulfuric acid, and these alloys also have a high tensile strength at elevated temperatures. 317L alloy can also be used for shearing, drawing, and stamping. The alloy also becomes magnetic after welding.

The grade 317L is a modified version of marine-grade stainless steel. This material has a higher molybdenum content and provides greater resistance to sulfurous acids and citric acid. In addition, the molybdenum content is also a factor in the grade’s resistance to acetic acid. The grade also provides more excellent creep properties.
